Description Villa dei Baroni

The villa was constructed around the middle 1800’s by a Baron of a noble Perugian family.

It was the family’s country house, one of many they owned  in the area of Bettona, a small town of etruscan origins situated amongst green hills of olive trees and woods at very short distance from Perugia and Assisi.

After a brief period of abandonment, in 2003 the heirs renovated carefully, respecting the original plan of their ancestors and paying especial attention to the frescoes in the sitting room, the upper hall and the bedrooms.

A handsome garden with olive trees and Mediterranean plants surround a large swimming pool.


There’s an area with deck chairs and a barbecue patio, just right for relaxing in the Umbrian hills after visiting the many art towns that can be found in the surroundings.
The bedrooms, each with its own bathroom are decorated in period style.

The rooms are furnished with classic antiques, mixing the mystique of the past with modern comfort.

The ample country kitchen, designed in the umbrian style, will satisfy even the most demanding cook.
Originally it was called Vettonia probably after Tiro Vettonio, an Etruscan leader who founded the town on the hill top, an Etruscan habit to exploit the strategic military position.

According to memoirs the  walls around the town Bettona and an Etruscan tomb.

During the Roman Empire the town’s importance continued to grow and it was mentioned by the Latin historian Pliny the Elder and later in documents of the Papal State with which it had always disagreed.

From the magnificent wall around the town, positioned on the summit of hill of olive trees, as if from a natural balcony, a wonderful panorama opens up before you: the green valleys of Umbria, the rivers Tevere -  Clitunno - Chiascio - Topino often cited in poetry and songs by fomous writers and poets the beautiful historical art town like Perugia - Assisi - Spello - Foligno - Spoleto.

Shopping: in the Bettona area there are many factories that produce designer cashmere and Outlet of Gucci, Armani, Fendi, Ferragamo, so one can take advantage of the special prices in their many outlets.

Wine and food shopping: one can find typical delicious products like truffles, wine, olive oil, salamis and it is possible to visit the famous oil and wine museum's in the area one can buy their products.

Handcrafts and hand made products: one can find products like textiles, ceramics, laces and  wrought iron in towns like: Deruta, Gualdo Tadino, Gubbio and others.   For more interesting information the owners of the Villa dei Baroni are happy to offer their help.

Excursions : many trips and excursions may be organised in the surrounding countryside, long walks, cycling, horse-riding to discover an artistic and natural Umbria.

Beautiful Umbrian places can been visited in the parks of Monte Cucco, Monte Sibillini, Oasi of WWF of Alviano, Lake Trasimeno is only 30 km away where one can go on - boat excursions, – - water ski or simply have dinner looking out the sunset. For golf lovers there is the Perugian Golf Club.
